Heuristic Evaluation- Goodreads.com

Using the guidelines from Uxtools.co’s Heuristic Evaluation UX Challenge, I evaluated Goodreads.com based on Jakob Nielson’s 10 Usability Heuristics. The purpose of this activity was to determine where the website could improve its usability.

Scope: For this activity, I only evaluated one specific user flow: Logging a book that the user read. If I were to want to do a more in depth evaluation, I might evaluate multiple user flows across different pages of the website.

Users: When evaluating a product for usability, it is important to remember who the users are. Statista.com shows that Goodreads users are predominantly ages 18-44, with the majority of users being women. Given the information about the age range, it is reasonable to assume that most users are relatively familiar with common design patterns found in other digital products.
